Daniele Brusaschetto – Fragranze Silenzio CD
"Every new album by Daniele Brusaschetto has always something very new and intriguing to offer and this one is no exception. Fragranze Silenzio sees the author embellishing his cryptic poetry with very minimal layers of electronics ranging from glitch to loops, tense ambiences, noises, hanging bass tones, but clearly the beloved guitar has a centre role. The melange is very subtle and so well conceived that it all sounds easy and natural, unless of course you go on and dissect the whole into its ingredients. And less, less, less is the dogma. With very few exceptions, there are no melodies as such and Daniele's trademark spoken words and hermetic lyrics sit in there just as if they were another sonic component. Most tracks are bodied by rhythmic loops that add movement, and laying a perfect foundation for the visionary experimentalism that makes each track a little pearl. And if you're fond of refined and suggestive music, don't let the word experimentalism scare you. There isn't any hint of chaos, or cold abstract sciolism across the forty minutes of this album. Even with the title track closing the album and making up for almost of it in fact, where all the brakes are loosened, the epic repetitiveness of the guitar chords doesn't carry the bite of a similar venture by, say, Swans or similar, but seems to rather offer the listener a lift from Daniele's obscure reflections down to the real-bodied world. Subtle, fragile, are adjectives that one can find in virtually any of my previous reviews of Brusaschetto's albums, and these apply as much to this, even if to a much lesser extent when compared with his most recent works. His experimentalism is a pretty personal affair, one that makes each of his albums a solid chapter, and this particular one, one of my favourites." - Gianfri
