It features four songs/compositions created exclusively with turntables and prepared vinyl records. The first of them, Sintordin, is BBNU s attempt to add something to the jazz from hell niche. And the idea of clashing marching bands... Ossifying Tongues started, as the name implies, as a sonic description of the ossification of the mouth: the human voice material was slowly changing into white rhythmic and repetitive skeletons. However, over the years, the song has changed into a different kind of a monster and can be read as a comment on BBNU s industrial/ambient past. Axe Loop is a rock song intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, instrumental break, chorus... somehow it is sixteen minutes long after the band decided to leave out one verse. And finally there is Smoking Sun, a short interpretation of the band s long-lost loop. New Romance meets clarinets on a nicely decorated dissecting table with some flowers in the pot. The fifth is a video track a 10 minute part of BBNU s performance from the autumn 2011, the day Freddie Mercury died. Martin Jezek shows his skills of 16mm improvisation here while Petr Ferenc and Michael Brunclík are locked in their favourite groove. Birds Build Nests Underground (BBNU) is a Prague-based trio working in the fields of found sound and vision. Their basic tools are a double DJ set and 8mm, 16mm, 35mm and KP8 film and slide projectors. Their goal is, however, not standard DJ/VJ entertainment muzak and screensaving but a deep dive into the very nature of sound and image. The turntablists of the band Petr Ferenc and Michal Brunclík manipulate records by keeping them out of their covers, placing stickers on them, cutting, scratching and piling them on turntable plates in order to allow all the mistakes and coincidental sound events equally important to the end result. Martin Jezek, the filmmaker of the band, treats (not only) found footage the same way as the turntablists treat their records: he juxtaposes, collages and edits the image to create a wholly new visual experience. Birds Build Nests Underground (BBNU) are not one of the few bands that create live soundtracks to an already existing filmwork. Their music and images interact, coexist and are created at the same time.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2606/0952/products/bb_1de77c1c-fae7-47dd-9b71-abc4af80bd45.jpg?v=1606411795
acid-cobra-petrified-minds-cd
Acid Cobra ‎– Petrified Minds CD

Acid Cobra ‎– Petrified Minds CD

Amaury Cambuzat (ULAN BATOR, Faust) a.k.a. Like the two albums before it, including his last one, The Zsigmondy Experience (2008), Recognition Journal is crafted from all manner of sounds and instrumentation, mostly arriving from a more abstract or avant-garde extraction. Not always easy to listen to, Orgon's music stands out for its ability to surprise. A "proper" or even acutely accessible song can leap from labyrinthine textures, assume almost prog-like proportions, and then dissolve into something far-removed from the starting point. And with his amazing production work -- the result of years of experience garnered from work with many a Welsh group from many different circles -- Orgon takes the whole notion of working the studio as an instrument to a level way beyond most of his contemporaries. A couple of other projects aside, namely Skeleton Birds & the Number of God and Spectral Armies, his work under his own name commenced in 2011 via a one-sided 7"/art package also released on Lumberton Trading Company. Limited to 100 copies and featuring a print of his own incredible and unique fine art, this sold out very quickly and set the course for a second edition and, indeed, in 2012, an LP, The Visitors, on Alt Vinyl.Similar to his drawings or art experiments with photocopied collages, his music beams in from some kind of distorted or fractured reality more focussed on those murkier twilight places the likes of H.P. Lovecraft cast their imaginations into. As the ten pieces on Here Begins the Great Destroyer pay witness to, a world of unfolding electronic textures, uneasy tones, rhythmic bursts and general sense of things not being quite as they seem serve as Nick's main preoccupations. However, this is no daft 'dark ambient' muck. Rather, like certain other artists on LTCo, it uncomfortably resides in a space where the likes of Ranaldo & the Loaf, Tuxedo Moon, Nurse With Wound and Andrew Liles each all crawled from. A space, essentially, few others would dare, or wish, to venture to in the first instance. Of course, there is a crooked humour evident, too, as no artist can truly traverse such places without it. Well, at least not if they want to keep their sanity more or less functioning…Here Begins the Great Destroyer is the first step towards what will, in due course, become a deluxe box set also containing an art booklet and vinyl by Nick Mott. The idea being that this release will not only promote it but can be added to the box set once ready by those interested in ordering it. More info is on the website.In the meantime, this album exists in its own right via this digipak CD, which is limited to 300 and will not be reprinted. Mastered, as often the case for a LTCo release, by Sion Orgon (known equally as a solo artist and working affiliate of Thighpaulsandra and the now unfortunately and tragically defunct Coil, amongst others), Here Begins the Great Destroyer is an album for those amongst us who command a more challenging listening experience.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2606/0952/products/nm_79ac62a6-bb71-4662-96b7-4e5b85fed11c.jpg?v=1607017066
jacek-staniszewski-zawstydzajacy-dar-cd
Jacek Staniszewski ‎– Zawstydzajacy Dar CD

Jacek Staniszewski ‎– Zawstydzajacy Dar CD

"Jacek Staniszewski is a veteran of the Polish artist scene who also records as a sound artist and DJ's at techno clubs in Warsaw. He was also a member of Neurobot and Facial Index, if that means anything to you. Zawstydzajacy Dar is his latest release, released on Lumberton Trading Company the Anglo-Polish label, run by Richard Johnson and it's a challenging and intense listen comprised of processed sound and turntabilism manipulations.

'Pengr' is awash with computerised glitches. It is quite literally tone waves, where looped tones are layered upon looped tones. Scratching and rushing to the surface. Like the early looped noise experiments of Boyd Rice / NON, you seek meaning in the seemingly random patterns of electronic generated tones. Whether you find discernible patterns is really up to the listener. Skittering electronics add another layer before it settles into unsettling looped sequences, pierced by shudders, shifts and sound cracks. It's an intense ride, for sure.

Jacek Staniszewski also indulges in turntablism and some of that appears mixed into the sound manipulations of 'Toglos'. Opening tonal bleeps and shifting drones are riddled with the crackle of distortion as the sounds become more processed and spatial. Getting progressively louder with tone rattles, returning to stylus crackle and low shift drones, echoing with soft indistinct melodies. On the latter half of the track the processed throbs and shudders, almost become galactic; as it veers between passages of spliced and cut-up space signals cast against crackling distorted textures to alien hum. And yet within its 23 minute duration it constantly folds in on itself and repeats passages in new contexts which ends up sounding quite aimless.

The first real rhythms of Zawstydzajacy Dar surface on 'Boigbee', albeit in the form of a hammering throb over sustained drone, clicks and hollow taps. A looped voice repeats continuously, as the throb almost transforms into a clock tick, the sustained drone alternating keys sinking into abrupt silence and reappearing. There's more rhythms on the channel shifting electronics of 'Zefx'. Its sole drum beat surrounded by processed rhythms and electronics. It's all quite chaotic, especially when the processed rhythms begin to stutter and explode like fire crackers amidst the laptop generated sound effects.

Zawstydzajacy Dar closes on the cut-up blasts of computerised noise of 'Shquip 04', slipping out on low-end frequency reverberations. With a running time just shy of a minute duration, you know it has been a challenging listen when the noisiest and shortest track offers the most sense of familiarity and cohesion.

Zawstydzajacy Dar features exclusive artwork from Polish artist Aleksandra Waliszewska but the image of a cat doesn't really convey the music - and neither does the insert text from Krystof Gutfranski. The whole album is challenging combining generated sounds with turntable manipulations. Some of it features electronics that are intense and busy but they're overlong showing little signs of sound progression in its composition. Other tracks are more simple with rhythms that come over like Pan Sonic lite. An editor or outside producer may have reined in its more wayward tendencies. Zawstydzajacy Dar is released on Lumberton Trading Company a much under-appreciated label who count Thighpaulsandra, Sion Orgon, Michael Gira, Human Greed, Theme in their catalog and countless others I have loved. I've got a lot of time for the people behind the label and I applaud Lumberton Trading Company for putting out new music. The CD also arrives in Dolorosa De la Cruz artwork and includes a 4pp. booklet.

Brian Conniffe is a cross-genre musician who has worked with a long list of collaborators covering a diverse stylistic range. Although perhaps most active as a member of a variety of synth-pop acts in his native Ireland, his most interesting work is that of far less conventional - deliberately uncommerical and even intentionally esoteric - experimental projects, characterised by a fusion of the darkest psychedelia with disquieting ambience. The most noteworthy of these possibly being the limited edition collaboration of Nurse With Wound’s 'Musique Pour Faits Divers' (2016).

This album was recorded from 2007 to 2009, and consists of two expansive pieces, which - as the title suggests - are characterised respectively by bright and nocturnal atmospheres, and retain an intense physicality undiminished by the occasionally abstract nature of the wide-ranging sound pallet utilised. The first piece is symphonic tapestry of colourful noise and alien-sounding drones, constantly shifting and avoiding monotony, reminiscent in places of the work of Labradford, The Hafler Trio, John Duncan, and Aube at their best. The second piece is altogether darker and more defiant of description and comparison, based around a long text written and spoken by the late Simon Morris (author and frontman of the Ceramic Hobs), which moves from its surreal yet possibly familiar beginning into an astonishingly breathless and tumultuous confessional, a true voice of the lost. The disquieting use of samples provided by Morris provides an intense sense of the uncanny.

Brian Conniffe says of the album's collaboration, "I got into contact with Simon Morris through collecting the most obscure music from the fringes of industrial music. We quickly developed a regular correspondence, exchanging cassettes, CDs and records of rare music, eventually meeting in person. He was a naturally entertaining writer, as the readers of his books will know. These and the very strange music his band produced also offered an often astonishing and sometimes shocking insight into the life of the mental health service user: a perspective which, combined with that of this highly active participant in the most extreme forms of underground music, to create a truly unique voice.

"At the time this album was recorded, I spent almost all of whatever free time I had creating very experimental and mostly improvised music, working with anyone around me who would participate. There was essentially no commercial aspect to what was being created, I was simply making music for myself, that I personally wanted to hear. At one point, Simon recorded his spoken vocals for me, and contributed them along with a handful of mysterious samples. And so, this album was created. It remained unreleased as shortly after its recording, I began to work with bands who were producing more conventional music, who were very active live and had established audiences in my native Ireland. Now, for a number of reasons, it feels like the right time for this to be heard."

Edward Ka-Spel – Permission To Leave The Temple 10"

Lumberton Trading Company releases five songs from experimental music veteran Edward Ka-Spel - co-founder of The Legendary Pink Dots - under the title ‘Permission To Leave The Temple’ in 2020.
