My Name Is Nobody & The Desert Foxes – The Mentor CD

From the city of Nantes, in the Bretagne region of France, comes the distinct and intelligent warble of Vincent Dupas who plays as My Name Is Nobody since 2003. Immediately reflective of formative years spent discovering American folk music and indie rock, Dupas' songs carry rich subtextural elements, deep enough to be explored with vigor -- his lyrics, reflections on culture and politics and the personal adventure of being human, are colorful, beautiful, and often fascinating contortions of the English language. Dupas' self-awareness and humor are matched only by his sincerity. In the past years, he has released 2 albums with Collectif Effervescence (his debut album I hope you re well, I am and I send you my fingers in 2006 and At the wolf pit a solo album in 2008) and has performed over 150 concerts in the past 3 years, touring extensively throughout the France, Italy, Spain and Benelux and a variety of performances with the likes of Herman Dune, Explosions in the sky, Pillars and tongues, Thomas Dybdhal, Chad Van Hagen, Dark Dark Dark... His third full-lengh album called The Mentor was produced at Studio Cocoon in Rennes during August, 2008 by Bruno Green (Lilium, Howe Gelb, Santa Cruz, Miossec...). Dupas decided to compose the whole album with The Desert Foxes a great backing band that shares the road with him for the last couple of years. He also invited Vassili Caillosse (pedal steel, steel guitar, dobro...) from Santa Cruz and Jérôme Lorichon (trumpet, percussion) from Berg Sans Nipple to play on the record. Bruno Green flew back to Lennoxville, Canada, to mix the tracks at his Silent Master, and the result is an eclectic and electric record in which Dupas' songwriting is magnified by the arrangement of his fellow musicians.
