In January 1979, legendary Soviet singer, songwriter, and actor Vladimir Vysotsky (known as the USSR Bob Dylan) traveled to the United States. During his time in New York City, he performed for enthusiastic crowds of students, faculty, and Soviet émigrés at two primary locations:

• Queens College (specifically on January 19, 1979)
• Brooklyn College

The live performances were compiled into a double LP vinyl album released later in 1979. Because Vysotsky’s recordings were largely ignored or suppressed by the official Soviet state record label (Melodiya) during his lifetime, this album was independently pressed and published in the United States. Original physical pressings remain highly prized rarities among vinyl collectors. It was later officially re-released on CD and cassette formats by labels like SoLyd Records in the 1990s.
